The dining room is where you and your beloved family are at their relaxed best for spending some good time together. The furniture should hence be comfortable and allow you to unwind. While the need for leadership is in common for all nations, the attributes of a good leader can vary greatly around the world. Leadership is, to some extent, a culturally dependent skill.Cultural values and norms are embedded in people`s expectations of leaders.
best leaders master the art and craft of language. They speak clearly and present logical and compelling arguments. They make wise use of communication tools and practices. But skilled leaders also know that communication goes beyond words. The actions and attitude send powerful messages. Effective communication lets team members know they are valuable, provides them with a sense of emotional security and is a significant part of the team bonding process.
what`s most important, communication is the transmission of meaning (not simply data or information) between a sender and a receiver. Your attitude and actions give additional meaning to your spoken and written messages. Your behavior gives people information about your disposition, opinion, mood or mental set - regardless of the words you speak. The way a leader communicates reveals much about his or her character. Communication can disclose the leader`s authenticity, sincerity, genuineness and virtually every other aspect of a leader`s character. When a leader is all talk and no substance, people see right through the official message.
Effective, respected leaders:
Often give encouragement and reassurance.
- Handle resistant audiences well.
- Understand the symbolic value of personal visibility.
- Ensure that nonverbal and verbal messages are aligned.
- Listen to individuals from all levels of the organization.

You may become a good manager. However, leadership training is a different thing from management training (they complement one another). If you rely only on being a good manager, youll never inspire people to give their very best. Because of this, people who are only good managers are passed over for promotion - time and again…

Wyjazd po upsa

Od kwartału chodził za mną zamiar zakupu upsa. Najbardziej zachęciła mnie oferta firmy HP ze względu na ich słynną już wysoką jakość wykonania. Dlatego wskoczyłem do autobusu, minąłem magazyn celny i trafiłem do sklepu. Obsłużono mnie bardzo rzetelnie, a panowie sprzedawcy znieśli dzielnie grad moich pytań i niepewności. Zaprowadzili mnie na serwis komputerów i pokazali działanie upsa na jednej z działających maszyn. Włączyli urządzenie, poczekali chwile i wyłączyli zasilanie w całym sklepie. Wszystkie lampy zgasły, monitory i pecety wyłączyły się oprócz naszego. Byłem pod bardzo dużym wrażeniem. Na boku urządzenia można było dostrzec wskaźnik informujący na jak długą pracę bez prądu wystarczy jeszcze nasz zasilacz. Dawał nam cale 10 minut. To bardzo długo. Zachwycony możliwościami takiego małego wynalazku kupiłem takie dwa. Jeden dla mnie, a drugi dla kumpla z biura, który ciągle przez wyłączanie prądu traci połowę plików nad którymi pracował, bo nie mogę przekonać go do nadpisywania co jakiś czas jego wersji roboczych.
Odkąd kupiłem upsa firmy HP moje życie zmieniło się na lepsze.

`How to Win Friends and Influence People` by Dale Carnegie was published in 1936. To this day, this book has sold over 15 million copies and is widely credited as being the first book in the modern self-help genre. The core of author`s simple philosophy is that one of the greatest human needs is to be an important person. If you want to win people over to your way of thinking, they need to like you. And the way to get them to do that is to take an interest in them.
While learning how to sell better, we often hear the advice to ask questions and listen to the customer. This advice, though, is frequently given in the context of using questions to gather information helpful to the sales process, and to listen for clues that will help you convince the customer to buy. What Carnegie said was that the true path to being a successful salesperson, leader, or well-liked individual was not to focus on your desired outcome, but to put your attention on the other person. Most important, at the beginning, is the communication training.
The main issue is that when you talk to someone about your business, you need to be direct, authentic, and unattached to the outcome. It is much easier then you thought so why not to do a short sales training. When you think of questions like, `What do I say when I call Mr. Big to find out if he is ready to buy?` Do not be afraid to say: `Hello, Mr. Big, have you decided to purchase our product?` Or maybe the question is how to follow up with someone you met at last night`s event who expressed some interest in your service. Try to say: `When we spoke last night, you seemed interested in my services, and I would like to continue our conversation`.
What do you say when you fear that the customer doubts your qualifications? How about: `You seem a bit unsure of my qualifications to do the job, and I would like to address that. What are your concerns?` This is all about conversations. You ask a question; they answer. They ask a question; you answer. It is like a friendly tennis match - all you have to do is keep the ball in the air, and all goes smoothly. But that is the catch, is not it? You think there is a lot at stake. What if you do not get the contract, the client, the money? So you make the conversation overly significant, put on your marketing face and your selling voice, speak someone else words… and the result is anything but direct and authentic. What impact does this have on the person you are speaking with? The opposite of a direct approach is an indirect one: devious, underhanded, sneaky (check your thesaurus). The opposite of authentic is inauthentic: phony and insincere. Is not this exactly what you have always been afraid of sounding like a used car salesman or telemarketer reading a script? Scripts are for rehearsals. In a meeting or on the phone, keep some talking points in front of you, but do not read. Every word should be one you would use in normal conversation - use instead of utilize; fix instead of rectify; help instead of facilitate. Get to the point quickly, and tell the truth about it. `I am just calling to introduce myself,` is not only an ineffective approach, it is a lie.
Show a sincere interest in people by asking questions about their goals and problems. When you see a place where your business can help, do not hesitate to say so. Be respectful of people`s time and really listen to what they say. Respond to what you heard instead of continuing to the next item on your agenda. These are just tips for changing your behavior. The real key is in your attitude so maybe you need a better management training in the UK. If you can recognize that being indirect, inauthentic, or attached to the outcome is causing you to lose sales instead of make them, you will have a powerful incentive to do things in different way.

To, w czym idziemy do pracy, może mieć znaczenie kluczowe. Bronimy się przed tym, ale nie raz ubiór jest decydującym czynnikiem wpływającym dodatnio lub ujemnie na ocenę otoczenia, samopoczucie, bezpieczeństwo, a także zarobki firmy, relacje z kontrahentami i współpracownikami. nie we wszystkich przypadkach kwestia ta będzie równie istotna. W zależności od płci oraz tego na jakim stanowisku jesteśmy zatrudnieni powody, dla jakich szczególnie dbamy o strój, ulegają zmianie. Mówić możemy właściwie o dwóch typach ubioru funkcjonującego w innych sytuacjach.

1. Pierwszym przypadkiem jest strój w biznesie.
O odpowiednim stroju dobrze pamiętają młodzi biznesmeni stawiający dopiero pierwsze kroki na rynku. Gdy rozkręca się własny interes istotne wydaje się wszystko, a więc także i elegancja. Myślenie to oparte jest na zasadzie jak cię widzą, tak cię piszą, lub na innym obiegowym stwierdzeniu, że nasza osoba staje się wizytówką firmy. Najwięcej uwagi przykłada się więc do wyboru garnituru (najlepiej by był on w kolorze szarym lub granatowym), koszuli (preferowane odcienie pastelowe; ewentualnie biel z dodatkami, np. w kratka, linie), krawata (najlepiej w delikatne, niezbyt krzykliwe wzorki) i dodatków jak pasek czy też dobrej marki zegarek.
Całość musi do siebie pasować i stanowić idealnie przemyślaną całość. Tą zasadą kierują się również panie przy wyborze stroju do biura lub na spotkanie z klientem biznesowym. Pierwsze wrażenie może zadecydować czy negocjacje skończą się dla nas korzystnie czy nie. Nie należy więc na ważne spotkanie ubierać sie zbyt ekstrawagancko i wyzywająco (dotyczy to głównie kobiet, gdyż mężczyźni mają mniejsze pole do popisu w tej kwestii). Nie chodzi przecież o eksponowanie swoich atutów (a jeśli tak to tylko dyskretne), lecz o argumenty merytoryczne. Tak więc, by wspomóc się wyglądem, ubierzmy się tak, aby wyglądać inteligentnie. Wybierzmy garsonkę w stonowanych kolorach, w tym najlepiej spodnie na kant lub spódnicę do kolan (krótsza raczej nie wskazana), buty na niskim obcasie z zakrytymi palcami i dopasowaną do całości koszulę. Nie obwieszajmy się również biżuterią, bo w stroju biznesowym zdecydowanie ważniejszy jest minimalizm. Najlepszymi dodatkami będą: dopasowana do butów lub kostiumu torebka, spinka w upiętych w kok włosach (jeśli są one długie) i jak w przypadku panów zegarek.

2. Kolejnym wariantem stroju jest sytuacja, gdy jest on z góry narzucony.
W wielu miejscach pracy przysługuje nam tzw. odzież robocza lub odzież korporacyjna. Pierwszą z nich nosimy w sytuacjach, gdzie decydują kwestie bezpieczeństwa i higieny. Ubrani zostajemy w fartuchy, kalosze, kombinezony, rękawice ochronne, czapki. Drugi typ ma duży związek z promowaniem firmy i budowaniem jej spójnego wizerunku. Jest on jednym z elementów skutecznej kampanii reklamowej. Takie artykuły reklamowe jak długopisy, kubki czy notesiki zostały już szeroko rozpowszechnione. Wśród nich znajdują się także czapeczki, koszulki, apaszki, skarpetki.
Coraz częściej jednak wielkie korporacje ubierają mających kontakt z klientem pracowników w koszulki z logo swojej firmy lub ujednolicają strój, ograniczając go do barw związanych bezpośrednio z wizerunkiem firmy. W taki sposób kreowany jest spójny wizerunek korporacji, rozpoznawalny na całym świecie i kojarzony z daną marką (nie jest to być może najbardziej kreatywny ze sposobów na promowanie danej marki, ale z pewnością skuteczny). W tym przypadku, noszenia odzieży korporacyjnej, działania pracownika ograniczają się nie raz do zadbania o to, by strój był czysty i schludny.

3.Trzecią opcją jest oczywiście ogólnie rozumiana dowolność.
Dotyczy wszystkich zawodów, gdzie strój nie ma bezpośredniego związku z pracą. Na przykład, jeśli wykonujemy pracę w domu: zarabiamy w sieci, piszemy artykuły, książki. W tym zaś przypadku nie ma jednak żadnych zasad.

The changes in injury litigation system over past few years.

The goal of this article is to present some basic facts about the modern personal injury litigation system in the UK, drawing upon the most reliable data sources that are available. We have compared three key sources of statistical information about claims in tort. These sources are, first, the data supplied in recent years by the Government’s Compensation Recovery Unit concerning the total number of claims made for personal injury each year; secondly, actuarial analyses based on over a million claims and produced for successive reports commissioned by the Association of British Insurers; and finally, the detailed figures collated in relation to clinical negligence claims made against the National Health Service. A distinguishing feature of all three sources of information is that they are founded upon a very wide statistical base.
The next important goal is to give at least a preliminary evaluation of the contention that both the number and the cost of claims have been driven to record levels. If the figures bear this out, it would lend support to those who consider the UK to be gripped by a compensation culture, and undermine the Government’s view that, although the compensation culture is a myth, the public’s erroneous belief that it exists results in real and costly burdens.
Compensation Recovery Unit statistics say that the number of claims has increased only by three per cent in the past few years. The more detailed figures reveal that not all types of injury have reflected in this small increase. In particular, it is notable that accident claims have actually declined, and it is the substantial rise in claims for disease that accounts for the overall increase.
The Insurers’ Bodily Injury Awards Studies. Throughout the period studied, legal costs, including both claimant and defendant costs, averaged 30 per cent of the total motor personal injury claims. This means that legal costs continued to increase by more than double the rate of the rise of national average earnings.
National Health Service statistics provide that there has undoubtedly been a very great increase in clinical negligence claims in the last 30 or so years. The Pearson Commission reported in 1978 that the number of claims of malpractice against doctors and dentists (including those in private practice) had been running at about 500 a year. By 1990-1991, the estimated number of new medical claims made against the NHS in England had risen to between 5419 and 6979 for the year. The Oxford shire study reported a “steady growth” in new claims in the period 1974-1998. In answers to Parliamentary questions in 2005, the number of claims made from 1996-2004 was broken down, using information supplied by the NHSLA. These figures confirmed the `continuation of the downward trend` in claims numbers that has been evident in recent years. They now are close to the lowest estimate for the year 1990-1991, coming down from a peak in the period 1997-2002.
Cost of claims
A complete picture of the NHS’s annual amount of money spent on clinical negligence compensation in England is available from 1996. This shows a general upwards trend up to and including the year 2004-2005. The figures are startlingly higher than those available for the start of the 1990’s, when the annual cost of clinical negligence compensation was reported to have been £53.2 and £51.3m in 1990-1991 and 1991-1992 respectively. Even these are very much higher than the estimated figure for 1974-75 of £1m. In claims for clinical negligence that were closed by the NHSLA in 2004-2005, defence and claimant costs were equal to, respectively, 13.76 per cent and 19.81 per cent of damages.
Outstanding liabilities for clinical negligence
One of the most frequently misapplied statistics in the current compensation culture debate is the annual estimate of the NHS’s outstanding liabilities for clinical negligence (including both known and unknown but expected claims, and taking into account the likelihood of settlement). This has risen from £3.2 billion in 1999 to £5.9 billion in 2003 and £7.8 billion in 2004. The figures refer to liabilities that the NHS claims will arise over a longer period of time, and are very much greater than the sums that are actually paid out on an annual basis. Estimating the cost of outstanding liabilities is an exercise that is fraught with difficulties and the resulting figure representing a “worst case” scenario has been heavily criticised. Although the estimate of outstanding liabilities is frequently cited in the press and media, it must be handled with care. It would be quite wrong, for example, to use it to calculate the percentage of the annual NHS budget that is currently spent on clinical negligence compensation.
These figures provide the basis for an initial examination of the claim that a damaging compensation culture has developed in the UK in recent years.
